Tips, opinions, and reviews of bankruptcy software and other due diligence products marketed to lawyers.

A legal secretary fresh out of high school.

My legal training is all “on the job.” I began my legal career in 1978 just two days after graduating high school (with business honors). My first legal secretary job was in downtown Seattle for a 2-attorney firm. There were no other employees so, at the age of seventeen, I was legal secretary, office manager, bookkeeper, and receptionist.

Attracted to the big cities.

My skills gave me the ability to move just about anywhere and quickly become employed. I preferred the big cities and over the next decade or so I worked in Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. I worked for sole proprietors, small and large firms, and corporate legal departments.

Able to adapt to many areas of law.

Besides bankruptcy, the other areas of law in which I have worked include family law, entertainment law, real estate, probate, immigration, and personal injury.

More attracted to working from home.

In the mid-1990’s, I began contracting my paralegal and bookkeeping services, which I found I preferred to being employed. In the 2000’s, it became obvious that working from home where I could watch my garden grow was even more to my liking.

Technology makes virtual assistants a reality.

Technology has now made the concept of virtual assistants a reality. I am very computer literate and would be considered a ‘techie’ by most people. By taking my professional skills and combining them with my tech skills, I am able to work as efficiently from my home office as I could from an attorney’s office. Probably more so because I keep my computer hardware upgraded to the latest, fastest available and my software updated and protected. (I even build my own computers.)
